Rude Awakening

Very, very early this morning, the phone rang.

Mom? I need you to take me to the ER.

Uh..what time is it..

Does that matter? Come here now!

It was Josh. I did figure out that he did not have a life threatening injury but he was unable to walk and was in a lot of pain. He had been kicked hard in a soccer game over a week ago leaving a bruise. No big deal but in the middle of the night, one week later all of a sudden a swelling the size of an orange appeared. It hurt a lot and he couldn't walk easily. He lives about 15 miles away. It is 5:30 am and it's dark and rainy. I notice an unfamiliar car in the driveway..he has a guest. Couldn't the guest drive him? No, the guest needed to sleep. (and I don't!).

We have our choice of the big UM hospital, which is a nightmare to park at and very busy or a small community hospital in which I am guessing, would not be as busy. The same distance. Also I was a loser yet again in Steve's game of gasoline roulette. I am operating on fumes but I figure out that he can wait while I gas up. The small community hospital to Josh appears to be a state park campground set back amongst the trees. As there is construction there, lighting was minimal and finding the ER was  not easy. And he was not the only patient! Old lady with angina and younger drug addict with  3 police escorting her for driving erratically. Walls are thin..we were treated to her loud tale of woe whether we wanted to hear it or not. The 3 police were there for the duration, which must represent their entire force. So after his leg was ultrasounded to make sure he had proper blood flow and x-rayed to look for broken bones, the verdict was a seroma that could be drained or allowed to subside on its own. Three hours later, I was home.

Josh is looking thinner and thinner due to not having meals cooked for him. Lots of drama in his life. Hopefully things will resolve soon.

It is game day here. Even non-football fans have to keep a close eye on the schedule as having the town population double especially with unfinished construction projects (like the main way to the stadium) cause our city to become an enormous parking lot. Again his house becomes UM fan party central. This time, Naomi and Don'tae will be allowed to come. Go Blue!
